The cycle is the unit your records were missing

Brewing software counts batches. A vessel refilled indefinitely has one batch that never closes, so every number hanging off it slowly stops being true, and every control point fires once at the beginning and never again.

Every refill is a control point

A regulator's own example kombucha plan makes "add water and starter, then measure the pH" its first critical control point, after combining and before fermenting. In a batch that fires once. In a vessel that is never emptied it fires at every refill, forever, because each refill dilutes the acid barrier back toward the limit. BrauMo judges every one of them.

One bad refill fails the record

However many cleared before it. And a refill nobody measured is not a quiet pass: it reads as unmeasured, because a hurdle cannot be cleared by silence. The printed record and the PDF both say which cycle failed and why.

The tank stops reading empty

Every input to a batch's volume subtracts, which is correct for something that can only empty and silently wrong for a vessel topped back up. Draws and refills are one timeline, so the litres in the tank, the yield and the cumulative throughput agree with each other and with what you actually poured.

How much can go back in

The largest refill that stays under your pH limit, learned from that vessel's own cycles. No coefficient ships with the app: pH is logarithmic and buffered, the buffering depends on your tea, your sugar and your culture, and a constant would be wrong exactly where being wrong matters. It stays quiet until the vessel has given it three usable cycles, and quiet again if the answer comes out unusable.

Questions these producers ask first

Is it continuous, or semi-continuous?
Semi-continuous, properly speaking, and the distinction is the whole reason your records are awkward. You draw part of the vessel and refill the rest, so the culture is never harvested and the tank is never empty. Nothing about it maps onto a batch that starts, finishes and closes.
What happens to lots and traceability?
The vessel is one record with its cycles inside it, so lot codes, certificates of analysis and the one-step-forward trail work exactly as they do for a batch. A draw becomes finished stock the same way a bottling run does.
Do I have to change how I brew?
No. A cycle records what you already do: the litres you drew, the litres you put back, and the pH of the mixed vessel afterwards. If you write that on a clipboard today, you are already keeping the record BrauMo asks for.
Can I run water kefir or vinegar this way too?
Not in this shape, and BrauMo says so rather than handing them kombucha's rhythm. Water kefir grains are a solid that is sieved out and that grows, so the liquid is fully exchanged and the ratio of grains to liquid climbs cycle on cycle. A vinegar's cycle ends on residual alcohol falling to a floor above zero, never to zero, or the bacteria turn on the acid they just made. Both lines are fully supported; neither declares this topology.
Is this an extra module?
No. It is included in the flat price, with every other feature, for every producer. There is nothing extra to buy and nothing to unlock.
